El Faro Catering chosen to honour Costa Rica President and Nobel Peace Prize, Oscar Arias, in the key of the city-giving reception

September 22th

Surprisingly, the keys of the city had never before been given in Cádiz so, for the first time, the local council availed of this opportunity to make this honour act bright more for a person as important as Óscar Árias, President of Costa Rica and Nobel-Peace Prize. Actually, it may be considered as one of the most important events to date within the preliminary program toward 2012 bicentenary celebration. Given the significance of this act, El Faro Catering feels very proud of being chosen to serve twice in the honour reception. Firstly and immediately after the closing ceremony of Tamara Avalos’ ceramics and sculpture exhibition, “Hija de Eva”, in Santa Catalina Castle, a selection of snacks were served as a prelude of the institutional diner given shortly later at La Merced Cultural Centre.

In view of the meaning of such twinning act, the menu was designed in keeping with local gastronomic tradition as our personal contribution to the construction of this cultural link to Latin America. Thus, we gave much importance to the presence of fish. In this sense, it was essential for us to serve ‘Cadiz fried fish’ and the traditional ‘grass shrimp fritters’, among other delicacies, two dishes which are becoming more and more popular as the distinguishing marks of our gastronomy.
